MK Health: Stoptober Challenge & Support for Quitting Smoking

MK Health: Stoptober Challenge & Support for Quitting Smoking

2017-10-10
| by Editor | Posted in Milton Keynes Health & Fitness

Earlier this month, NHS Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) challenged smokers in MK to stub their cigs out this October, for the best chance to quit for good!

Milton Keynes Stoptober Challenge

We’re ten 10 days into Stoptober and if you still haven’t put out your cigarettes, it’s not too late to join in. Stats show that smokers who take part in the Stoptober Challenge and successfully quit for the duration of 28 days are five times more likely to quit for good.

So if you’re looking for a way to improve your health and put an end to your habit, give the Stoptober Challenge a go.

Stopping smoking has a huge number of benefits for your health. Including a lower risk of cancer, lower cholesterol, clearer skin, stronger bones, better vision, sharper hearing, preventing emphysema and much more. Additionally, the risk of a heart attack declines within just 24 hours of stopping smoking – so it’s never too late to quit for good.

NHS Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group are urging smokers in the town to take part in the Stoptober Challenge:

“We want smokers to understand that stopping smoking is one of the best things they can do for their health. If you quit for October you are much more likely to quit for good so why not give it a go? Not only will you be feeling the health benefits almost immediately, you could be over £10,000 better off this by time next year.” – Dr. Nicola Smith, GP & Chair of Milton Keynes CCG.
